Total distance is sum of the distance AB & BC where C is final point perpendicular to AB which is 8+6=14.

While displacement is the shortest distance AC which can be found using Pythagoras theorem as body moves from A to B,then moves a distance of 6m at right angles to AB. Then we get AC=(8^2+6^2)^1/2 i.e. (64+36)^1/2= 100^1/2 = 10.

distance travels from a to b - 8 m

distance travelled at right angle -6m

so,total distance covered=8+6=14m

displacement=√8²+6²=√100=10
