Step-by-step explanation:

L.H.S.

= 1 +tanA.tanA/2

= 1+ (sinA.sinA/2)/(cosA.cosA/2)

=(cosA.cosA/2+sinA.sinA/2)/(cosA.cosA/2)

=cos(A-A/2)/(cosA.cosA/2)

= cosA/2 /(cosA.cosA/2)

= 1/cosA

secA + tanA = x

now, we know that

sec^2 A - tan^2 A = 1

(secA + tanA )( secA - tanA) = 1

secA - tan A = 1/(secA + tanA)

secA - tanA = 1/x

secA + tanA = x

----------------------------

subtracting we get

2tanA = x - 1/x

= (x^2 - 1)/x

tan A = (x^2 - 1)/2x
