(a) The birds migrated to the yamuna during winter to feed in the yamuna water. This happened when yamuna was clear and clean. In that clean water many water plants such as weeds , algae , and shrubs grew. These grew in the water or along the bank of the river and served as food for the birds.
==================================
(b) The rich quality of the yamuna water in the past was indicated by its clear and clean water. The water plants that grew in its water or along the bank were the indications of the same . There was no chironomids which live in the polluted water.
==================================
(c) The severe pollution of the yamuna water has deprived it of water plants and weeds. As a result , the birds that came here during winter, do not come any more. Instead of water plants such as algae and shrub , there are red worms called chironomids.
==================================
(d) Chironomids are the red worms which live only in the most unhygienic and polluted water.
==================================
(e) ‘ Vanish ’ is the word in the passage which means ‘ Disappear ’ .
