Given :- A purchased a bike and spent $75 on its repair. He sold it to B and made a 35% profit. B sold it to C at a 20% loss for $324. How much did A buy it for ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, A buy the bike at $ x .

so,

→ CP of bike for A = $ x

→ Amount spent by A on its repair = $ 75 .

then,

→ Total amount spent by A = $(x + 75)

now,

→ Profit = 35%

→ SP of A = CP(100 + P%)/100 = (x + 75) * 135/100 = $ 1.35(x + 75) = CP of B .

now,

→ CP of bike for B = $ 1.35(x + 75)

→ Loss = 20%

so,

→ SP of bike = [1.35(x + 75) * 80]/100 = $[0.8 * 1.35 * (x + 75)] = CP of C .

A/q,

→ 0.8 * 1.35 * (x + 75) = 324

→ 1.08 * (x + 75) = 324

→ x + 75 = 300

→ x = 300 - 75

→ x = $ 225 (Ans.)

Hence, A buy the bike at $ 225 .
