1. Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions:
A farmer wanted to sell a sack of wheat in the market. On a
Sunday, he set off from home at 8 o'clock. He put the sack on
his pony's back and sat right behind the bag. A neighbour
remarked, "What a cruel man you are to load the pony with the
sack and your weight too!"
So the farmer slung the bag across his own shoulders, sat on the
pony's back, and rode off to the market. By the time they
reached the market, the poor pony was very tired. The grain
merchant scolded the farmer for being so cruel to his pony. The
farmer protested, "But I carried the bag of wheat during the
ride. The pony carried only me!"
