He asked them to draw up a scheme of basic education according to<br />the principle that all knowledge, skills and activities which were regarded to be necessary<br />for the education of the child, should center round some useful craft and the whole<br />process should be permeated with the spirit of a social and moral philosophy based on<br />truth and non-violence. The Government of India also accepted the scheme of basic<br />education with some reservations and wanted all primary education to be gradually<br />remodelled on this pattern.
