After self-pollination in pea plants with round, yellow seeds, following types of seeds were obtained
by Mendel :

Analyse the result and describe the mechanism of inheritance which explains these results.

When we see the phenotype of the two types of progeny we find that both the types have the seed colour yellow while approximately 50 % of them have round seed type while the other 50 % have wrinkled seed type . So , the pea plant with yellow and round seeds must be homozygous for yellow seed colour ( YY ) while it must be heterozygous for the round seed type ( Rr ) .

So , the genotype of the plant with yellow and round seed is YYRr .

[ Note : Seed colour : Yellow is dominant , green is recessive .

Seed type : Round is dominant , wrinkled is recessive . ]

So , the correct answer is ' YYRr ' .
