When the humid shadows hover
over all the starry. spheres.
And the melancholy darkness
Gently weeps in rainy tears.
What a bliss to press the pillow
of a cottage-chamber bed.
And lie listening to the patter
of the soft rain overhead ! (a) what does the poet call melancholy darkness weeping​

Here melancholy darkness means sad darkness it refers to the past memories of the poet which are full of joy and now he is sad because these are past memories which will not come again .The poet says melancholy darkness weeping because that darkness appears sad to poet as it taken poet into past memories ,the poet compares the activity of weeping with the rain droplets.
