1. Alluvial soil - Mainly found in the plains of Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand etc. crops grown are Large variety of rabi and kharif crops such as wheat, rice, sugarcane, cotton, jute etc.
Black (Regur soil)soil - this soil is found in Deccan plateau- Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Valleys of Krishna and Godavari. crops grown are Cotton, sugarcane, jowar, tobacco, wheat, rice etc.
Red soil - this soil is found in Eastern and southern part of the Deccan plateau, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and southern parts of the middle Ganga plain. crops grown are Wheat, rice, cotton, sugarcane and pulses
Laterite soil - this soil is found in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Orissa hills. crops grown are Cashew Nuts, tea, coffee, rubber
Arid and Desert soil - this soil is found in Western Rajasthan, north Gujarat and southern Punjab crops grown are Humus, Nitrogen Only drought resistant and salt tolerant crops such as barley, cotton, millets maize and pulses
Saline and Alkaline soil - this soil is found in Western Gujarat, deltas of eastern coast, Sunderban areas of West Bengal, Punjab and Haryana.

3. On April 13, 1919, British Indian Army soldiers started shooting at an unarmed crowd of men, women and children. The person in charge was Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, the military commander of Amritsar. The shooting lasted about ten minutes. According to official British Raj sources, 379 people were killed.
