a) What pH do you expect for the following salt solutions and why? NaCl, CuSO4, and Na₂CO3

b) Alcohol and glucose also contain hydrogen but do not conduct electricity. Why?​

(a) CuSO4 is a salt of strong acid (H2SO4) and weak base [CU(OH)2]. Therefore, its solution is acidic with pH <7. Na2CO3 is a salt of strong base (NaOH) and weak acid (H2CO3). Therefore, its solution is basic with pH >7.

(b)Because when they dissolve in water they do not release hydrogen ions. ... ... and in case of alcohol and glucose no free ions are there, so only presence of H is not sufficient but presence of H⁺ i.e. free ion is sufficient to conduct electricity.
