Reading Comprehension

(a) 1) The invitation was  to attend an official dance party

Explanation:

In the story 'The Necklace' Monsieur Loisel was a petty clerk who could hardly take his beautiful wife to grand parties.

So when there was an invitation from the Ministry of Education to attend an official dance party he immediately seized the opportunity .

(b) 1) she rarely got a chance to attend a function.

Monsieur Loisel was a good husband. He always felt guilty that he was a very simple man and stood nowhere in comparison to her beauty.

c) The lady was frustrated because she did not have any proper clothes to wear for the high profile party. She also did not have any expensive jewels to exhibit. Although she was exquisitely beautiful yet she did not have the proper apparel and accessories to groom herself.

d) Murmuring.

Whispering is a verb that refers to speaking something in an extremely low tone.
