Given :- A shopkeeper sells one machine for Rs. 990 at a profit of 10% and another machine for Rs. 1960 at a loss of

2%. What is his total gain or loss percent ?

Solution :-

Case 1) :- shopkeeper sells one machine for Rs. 990 at a profit of 10% .

So,

→ SP of machine = Rs.990

→ Profit % = 10%

→ CP of machine = (SP * 100) / (100 + Profit%) = (990 * 100) / (100 + 10) = (990 * 100) / 110 = Rs.900 .

Case 2) :- shopkeeper sells another machine for Rs. 1960 at a loss of 2%.

So,

→ SP of another machine = Rs.1960

→ Loss % = 2%

→ CP of machine = (SP * 100) / (100 - Loss%) = (1960 * 100) / (100 - 2) = (1960 * 100) / 98 = Rs.2000 .

Therefore,

→ Total CP of both machines = 2000 + 900 = Rs.2900

→ Total SP of both machines = 1960 + 990 = Rs.2950 .

As we can see SP > CP.

Hence,

Total Profit to shopkeeper = SP - CP = 2950 - 2900 = Rs.50

→ Total Profit % = (Profit in Rs. * 100) / (Total CP) = (50 * 100) / 2900 = (50/29) 1.72% (Ans.)

Shopkeeper total Profit is 1.72%
