A.R. RAHMAN
Birth : 6 February, 1967 in a Hindu family in Madras
Parents : Father a film music composer, died when Rahman was 9.
Early Life : Rahman inherited his father's equipment. Began performing at the age of 11; dropped out of
school to become a musician. Later, got the scholarship to Trinity College of Music.
Personal life: At 23, Rahman and family converted to Sufism.
Skills: mastered harmonium piano synthesizer and guitar and music composition.
Honours and Awards:
• Vi National Film awards and vi Tamil Nadu State film awards.
Two Grammy Awards
Honorary doctorates from several National and foreign universities
Padma Shri in 2000.
Padma Bhushan in 2010
