Sedimentation is a physical water
treatment process using gravity to
remove suspended solids from water.
Find the settling velocity of a discrete
particle in water under conditions when
Reynold's number is less than 0.5. The
diameter and specific gravity of the
particle is 5 x 10-3 cm and 2.65
respectively. Water temperature is 20
degree Celsius (Kinematic viscosity of
water at 20 degree Celsius = 1.01
cm2/sec.

Answer:

Where G=2.65;

d=5x10-3cm,

T =200C

(165.2(41822=418x1.65x25x10-4x1.3 vs=2.24mm/sec

=0.224cm/sec
