Tricki had grown very fat for which it needed to be in a tight regime under Mr. Herriot, Mrs. Pumphrey, on the other hand pampered Tricki too much which was the cause of illness.
She was swooned when Mr. Herriot talked of "fornight" stay and surgery of Tricki .

Dr James Herriot realised that as long as Tricki was with Mrs Pumphrey, he would be miserable. He suggested to her that Tricki must be hospitalised for a fortnight. He would be under his observation. The lady almost fainted on hearing this, but Dr Herriot took a firm line
