The Thirsty Crow
Once upon a time, in a tiny village of a hot region, there lived an old woman with her granddaughter. One day it so happened that the old lady finished washing her utensils and happened to leave the pot of water from which she was washing the utnsils outside.
Now who sholud come by, but a famished and thirsty crow! The poor bird had not had a drop of water to drink since morning and had searched high and low for a source of water; but his efforts went all in vain. Exhausted, he sat on a branch of a tree and said to himself, "Caw Caw! what shall I do now? I have searched everywhere, but I can't find water anywhere!" Just then his sharp little eyes spotted the pot of water left outside by the old woman. Overjoyed, he flew towards the pot and perched himself on the rim. But when he looked into the pot, his face fell. The level of water in the pot was too low for him. No matter how much he tried he just couldn't reach it. His sharp little mind began ticking, and suddenly an idea flashed into his head. He flew down and picked up a stone in his beak. He then flew back to the pot and dropped the stone into it. To his delight the level of the water increased slightly! He kept on putting more and more pebbles in the pot and the water level kept on increasing. Finally he could easily drink the water, which he did and flew away contented and happy.
Moral: In times of worry, only your wits will come to your aid.
