x² - y² +6y -9
= x² -(y²-6y +9)
using (a-b)² = a² -2ab +b²
= x² -(y-3)²
using a²-b² = (a-b)(a+b)
= (x-y+3)(x+y-3)

I hope you understand the approach.
All the best!
