Seeding means that teams are placed in such a way that stronger teams don't compete in previous rounds. Seeding is given to some special teams/those teams who were winner/runner up of the previous year's tournament
Explanation:
- Seeding is a process in which good teams are placed in a position in which better teams do not meet at the very beginning of a tournament. The strong teams are chosen to retain them at the correct places in the seeding room so that they they should not meet in the earlier rounds
- During knockout tournament, it is often possible to have strong teams paired up with weak teams or to combine all strong teams into the top half or the bottom half. In this way, some strong teams could possibly be eliminated in the preliminary round. This may be a setback to the strong teams.
- A seeding system is employed to prevent such a scenario. The strong teams are selected in this way to retain them at any appropriate place in the fixture. The organisers will be well-aware of the prior success of the teams in choosing strong teams. In the event that two teams are to be seeded, one team is kept on the top of upper half and 2nd team is kept in the last of the lower half. If 4 teams are to be seeded, the first two teams are retained in the above positions.
- The 3rd seeded team will be kept on the top of lower half and the 4th seeded team will be kept at the lowest place in the upper half. The number of seeded teams, generally, shall be the power of like 2, 4, 8, 16, etc., all the fixture by lots.
