Earthquake is the sudden shaking of the earth's surface due to the changes in the layers of the earth.

Seismology is the study of earthquake and seismologist is one who studies seismology.

Earthquakes don’t kill people. Buildings do

1. Earthquakes are not the direct cause for the people dying. It is the huge and heavy buildings that kill people.

2. Earthquakes usually last for only 30 - 60 seconds.

3. If the buildings are earthquake proof that is constructed with light materials it could save many people lives.

4. Old damaged buildings are another cause of death during an earthquake. So they should be demolished and replaced with new buildings.

5. The basement of the buildings is a factor for the collapse of buildings during the earthquake. The base should be strong and capable of absorbing vibrations.

6. The place of construction should be safe from earthquake vibrations. Buildings on soft sediment site collapse easily.

Seismologists believe that instead of an earthquake, buildings kill people because, at the end of the day, it is the building which falls down due to the earthquake and create havoc among the people killing them or hurting them in large numbers.

Earthquake is moving of the plates inside the surface where people walk.

Due to which plates above start to shake and high resonance is created which affects tall building or building which has worn and torn in time.

Thus, the statement proves to be right in some ways.
