Given :   average bill totals for given numbers of diners at Simone's restaurant.

rate is constant

graph this relationship with the number of people along the x-axis and bill amounts along the y

To Find : which points will lie on the line you get?

Solution:

Persons        Bill Amount  $

x                     y

1                     40

2                    80

7                    280

9                    360

11                    440

y = mx + c

=> 40 =m+ c

80 = 2m + c

=> m = 40

40 = 40 + c

=> c = 0

Hence

y = 40x

x = 12 => y = 480

x = 20 => y = 800

x =24 => y = 960

x = 27 => y = 1080

x = 28 => y = 1120

Hence (20 , 800)  and ( 27 , 1080 ) point lies on the line
