A nucleosome is made up of deoxyribonucleotides and histone proteins.

• A nucleosome is a structure in the chromosome of an organism which consists of DNA (deoxyribonucleotides) wrapped around a core of eight (octamer) histone proteins.
• It is due to the compact wrapping of DNA in the histone that the nucleus if each cell can accomodate such large lengths of the nucleic acid.
• The DNA is slightly acidic and hence negativity charged. This is why it is well associated with the positively charged basic amino acids arginine and lysine which make-up the nucleosome core.
• The histone octamer consists of 5 monomers- H1, H2a, H2b, H3 and H4. 'H1' histone is involved in linking two nucleosomes while the others make-up the core.
