Select the equation that most accurately depicts the word problem.

A 3-pound tub of butter at n dollars per pound costs $3.85.

3n = 3.85
3 - n = 3.85
3 + n = 3.85

Lets see, lets try to put this problem in a formula.
For every 3 pounds of butter you have, you have to pay $3.85
Therefore the equation will be:

$3.85=3n

You then have to divide the 3 on both sides in order to isolate the n

$3.853=3n3

$1.28=n
