H2S +I2 -----> 2HI + S

In this reaction H2S is changing into S. This is the removal of hydrogen from H2S. The removal of hydrogen is known as oxidation. Hydrogen sulphide is being oxidized to sulphur. Iodine is removing the hydrogen from H2S so iodine is the oxidizing agent.

I2 is changing into a HI. This is the addition of hydrogen to Iodine. Addition of hydrogen is known as reduction. Iodine is being reduced to hydrogen iodide. Hydrogen sulphide is being reduced the hydrogen. So hydrogen sulphide is the reducing agent.

I is getting reduced as it has 0 first and then -1 as oxidation no. Means i is oxidising agent while s is reducing agent as it is getting oxidised with oxidation no. -2 first then 0
