'After the Battle of Saratoga', 'the Spanish and French joined the war on the colonists' side'. 'Britain soon lost the city of Philadelphia' and 'decided to focus on defeating patriot forces in the South'

Explanation:

  • The Battle of Saratoga was a significant turning point in the American Revolution. The name of Brit General John Burgoys who had come to 'Benjamin Franklin in Versailles' on 4th December 1777, surrendered in Saratoga. Two days later, King Louis XVI approved the coalition talks.
  • The "Treaty of Alliance" was signed on 6th February 1778 following its knowledge of the Agreement,  England had  declared war on France on 17th March. Hostility started with navy skirmishes between the British & French forces in the "French island of Ushant" in June. In 1777 Spain was turned into a French ally.
  • The Netherlands' entrance into the war was also motivated by the influence of French diplomatic relations with the different world powers & the proclaimed neutrality of other powerful geopolitical actors, comprising Russia. The victory of Saratoga had diminished Britain 's northern influence. In summer of 1778 the British rapidly withdrew from Saratoga and the wars erupted in the South.
