Coming to the question, a big NO !

Tamil is not a difficult language to learn if you keep interacting with the localites on a regular basis. It hardly takes a week to pick up the basic sentences, and within a year, Tamil would feel like your mother tongue. But if you think you can manage it with online courses and books, you might end up sounding fake, because getting the local flow is what makes the interaction interesting. So make sure you catch up with the locals and let them know that you’re trying to learn Tamil instead of showing off your English speaking skills. They’re amazing people! The lyricists here in Tamil movies bring in so many emotions with exceptionally woven words which along with the subtitles make learning Tamil even easier. Exploring this language is a journey in itself.

The point to be noted is that, lingual Tamil is easier to pick up when compared to the written scripture. You’d have to invest some personal time to get a hang of it. You’d have an edge if you’re a South Indian, but if you’re from the North, get ready for some gorgeously shaped letters.

Throw in a few Anna(elder bro), Akka (sister), Thambi (younger bro) here and there, and you’re good to mingle with the beautiful culture of this land of temples, cuisines and music.

You can download pdf- TAMIL FOR MEDICOS- Jipmer. If you are keenly interested in learning the language. I use it while taking history of patients. The manual is very helpful.

I hope my answer helps. :))
