Cost Price = Sell price - Profit

(1+ 1/5) C.P = 360

C.P = 360 × 5/6

C.P = 300

SP of the article = 360 rupees

Profit % = 20%

Profit = 20% of CP

and SP = CP + profit

or, 360 = CP + (20% of CP)

or, 360 = CP + 20/100 x CP

or, 360 = CP + 1/5 x CP

or, 360 = CP 1+1/5

or, 360 = CP x 6/5

or, CP = 360 x 5/6 = 300 rupees

Therefore, the cost price of the article = 300 rupees
