Answer :-

Semi-cone angle is given by tan α.

tan α = [ (d₂ - d₁) /2 ] / l

Let d₁ & d₂ we the diameter of the throat and exit of the nozzle respectively.

l = The divergent portion of the nozzle.

α - In radians

So if we know d₁ , d₂ and l, we can find Semi-cone angle of the divergent part of the convergent-divergent steam nozzle.

Convergent-divergent steam nozzle:

  • In this nozzle, the cross sectional area of the nozzle decreases from entrance to throat and increases from throat to exit.
  • In this case, the back pressure is less than the critical pressure.

Semi-cone angle of the divergent part:

tan α = (d₃ - d₂)/l

Where,

α = Semi-cone angle

d₃ = Diameter of throat

d₂ = Diameter of exit

l = Length of divergent portion
