Senescence is the phenomenon by which normal cell stops to divide. It is an irreversible state of permanent growth arrest of the cell without undergoing cell death.

Unrepaired DNA damage or other cellular stresses tend to Senescence.

The number of senescent cells in tissues rises during normal aging and cells remain metabolically active but cannot replicate.
