To reamin involved in doing something to practise a skill often enough so that you do not lose the skill or to retain one's skill.
Example-
1. I do a bit of teaching now and then just to keep my hand in.
2. I have mostly stopped acting, but I will do a play occasionally, just to keep my hand in.
