Answer:

Ruskin Bond's The Kitemaker focuses on tradition death, spirit, joy, freedom, compassion, pride and transformation. Ruskin Bond describes the easy and simple life in the past when even a kite maker had a social prestige, and when the people had concern and affection for each other

Explanation:

Mehmood used to make kites for a living once upon a time. But as he grew older, fewer people were looking for kites  and the long tradition of making kits which  Mehmood made a living of eventually died. However it is interesting that Mehmood still perseveres with making kites even if it is only to please his grandson Ali.

Ironically, Bond seems to underline how landscape has changed. The story is also interesting. This might be important since Bond symbolically suggests that  landscape has changed or the city has grown so too has Mehmood. Although in Mehmood’s case he has grown older.

A new generation has arrived in the city and Mehmood knows nobody. Once upon a time when he was younger he had visitors. Now he is left alone. It's as if he not known to people other than his relatives.

Which may be the point that Bond is attempting to make. He make be suggesting that with old age comes loneliness

Mehmood has reached a stage where his main objective is to make Ali happy. The reader also knows that Mehmood is proud of his expertise in kites. Even if some of his kites were a little hard to fly

Nonetheless, Mehmood never stopped making kites. He had the ability to adapt when he had difficulties with some of the kites he made a Which may indicate to some readers that Mehmood has been able to adapt to any changes in his life.'

Symbolically Mehmood is comparing himself to the older banyan tree and ot is as though there is a cycle in life and Mehmood knows that he himself is at the end of this cycle.

Like poets, Kite makers once had their patrons. Mahmood, had none at his old age. The children who used to buy  kites from him 10 years ago were now adults trying to make a living. They did not have time for the old man or his memories. Mahmood had grown old like the banyan tree, his hands gnarled and twisted like the roots of the tree.
