∵ X+Y = 51     ---------->(1)

∵ X = 2Y+3    ---------->(2)

∴ substitute by (2) in (1) :

∴ (2Y + 3) + Y = 51

∴ 3Y +3 =51

∴ 3Y = 48

∴ Y = \frac{48}{3} = 16    ---------->(3)

∴ substitute by (3) in (2) :

∴ X = (2 x 16) + 3

∴ X = 35    ---------->(4)

∴ from (3) and (4) :  

X = 35 , Y = 16
