At this point iodine passes from CCl4 to water is equal to rate at which it passes from water to CCL4. when CCl4 is added to iodine solution as a result brown clour of tri iodide ion fades and purple colour of free ions appear in organic phase . both are shaked to increase area of contact thus more chances of transferring iodine .
