Social Studies: The First War for Independence

Answer:

Option A : 11 May 1857

Sepoys marched from Meerut towards Red Fort on 11 May 1857. This was to ask the Mughal ruler Bahadur Shah Zafar to be their leader. This was because rumour spread all over India that the soldiers were given cartilages smeared with cow fat. They marched to the Red Fort to claim control and to make Bahadur Shah Zafar their leader.
