The Balkan was a region comprising the modern day Serbia, Romania, Bosnia herzegovina, Albania, bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Slovenia, Montenegro. Balkan became an area of intense conflicts, as these states were jealous of eachother and wanted to aquire more and more territories. It became a scene of big power rivalry.

This led to a series of war, and finally the first world war, which involved the assassination of Franz Ferdinand who was the Archduke of Austria Hungary empire.
