1. )A 160-gram object attaches at one end of a spring and the change in length of the spring is 4 cm. What is the change in length of three springs connected in series and parallel, as shown in the figure ...

Ans=6cm

2.)2. Three springs with the same constant connected in series and parallel, and a 2-kg object attached at one end of a spring, as shown in figure below. Spring constant is k1 = k2 = k3 = 300 N/m. What is the change in length of the three springs. Acceleration due to gravity is g = 10 m.s-2.

Ans 20newton

In series combination of springs force is same

Consider two springs joined in series,

For spring 1,spring constant =k1,elongation =e1

Similarly for spring 2,k2&e2.

Total elongation,

e=e1+e2

F/ks = F/k1 +F/k2

1/ks =1/k1 +1/k2

Where Ks= equalent spring constant in series

In parallel combination elongation is same.

Consider two springs with spring constants k1&k2,force acting on each spring F1&F2

Total force acting F=F1 + F2

Kp*e = k1*e + k2*e

Kp= k1 + k2

Where kp = equalent spring constant in parallel
