Swami Vivekananda (1863 to 1902) was born Narendranath Datta on 12 January, in Calcutta. Even as a boy, he was compassionate, generous and deeply spiritual. In his unending quest for knowledge, he devoured books on diverse subjects, especially religion and philosophy. However, they left him dissatisfied. When Naren met his guru Sri Ramakrishna, he was drawn to the seer. Naren gradually renounced all worldly desires and became a sanyasi, whom we call Swami Vivekananda.
