Sets

Given that ,

★ n ( X) = 17

★ n ( Y ) = 23

★ n ( X U Y ) = 38

→ n ( X ∩ Y ) = ?

 using the formula :-

→ n ( X U Y ) = n ( X ) + n ( Y ) - n ( X ∩ Y )

→ 38 = 17 + 23 - n ( X ∩ Y )

→ 38 = 40 - n ( X ∩ Y)

 •°• n ( X ∩ Y ) = 2

 Note :-

→ ∩ means the Intersection i,e common elements of two sets!

→ U means the Union i,e addition of all the elements of two sets !

 Thanks !!
