On mixing with water, Plaster of Paris again changes into gypsum and converts into a hard solid mass.
During setting the following reaction takes place
CaSO4.1/2 H2O+3/2H2O= CaSO4.2H2O
Only half a water molecule is attached as water of crystallization in formula unit of plaster of Paris because two formula units of CaSO4 share one molecule of water.
