step 2 : 12 times first is added to five times second part = 472

step 3 :

12 x + 5 (72-x) = 472

12x + 360-5x = 472

7x = 112

x = 112÷7 = 16

step 4 : first part is 16

second part is (72-x) = 72-16 = 56

step 5 : so the parts are 16 and 56.
