Sewage purification by microbes.

* Sewage is the presence of huge amounts of organic matter in the waste water generated. Hence, this can be treated using microbes.

* There are sewage treatment plants that utilize heterotrophic microbes to get rid of the organic matter.

* Sewage treatment has two steps:

1. Primary - the removal of small are large particles from water by physical means.

The effluent from primary treatment goes for secondary treatment.

2. Secondary- Effluent is passed to large aeration tanks where bacteria form flocs along with fungus which finally helps in reducing the biological oxygen demand ( BOD).
