Formula to be used

sec² x - tan²x = 1

From formula, a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)

We can write,

( secx - tanx )( secx + tanx) = 1

( sec x - tanx )= 1 / ( secx + tanx )

Solving

sec x - tanx = 1 / ( secx + tanx )

secx - tanx = 1 / 0.5 = 2

secx + tanx = 0.5

Now, adding both the equations

2secx = 2.5

secx = 1.25

Now, put value of secx in any equation

secx + tanx = 0.5

1.25 + tanx = 0.5

tanx = 0.5 - 1.25

tanx = - 0.75

Answer

tanx = 0.75
