  • Sexual reproduction is also of three types isogamous, anisogamous and oogamous.
  • Diatoms reproduce by mitosis in which a cell is divided into two daughter cells.
  • In isogamous the gametes produced are similar in shape and size. for example- ulothrix and spirogyra and common in green algae.
  • In the oogamous type of sexual reproduction female gametes is large and non-motile while male gametes are small and motile and are commonly found in brown algae or Phaeophyceae. for example- volvox, focus, sargassum, chara etc.
