Explanation:
Aatmanirbhar Bharat translates to self-reliant and self-sufficent India, meaning a version of India that is well-developed and at par with other leading nations of the world. Reaching that level is not easy, but not impossible either. There are certain criteria that need to be fulfilled before we attempt to make India a global leader. One such factor is health.
The importance of health cannot be undermined. In fact, of the 17 goals listed in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, more than half of them depend on health. In simple words, ill-health cannot lead to progress. In fact, ill- health and disease hinder development and need to be addressed beforehand. Therefore, each individual’s health is a national asset and indirectly but surely affects national progress.
Being physically fit ensures a healthy, disease free body and mind. If each individual strives to be fit, then they will be contributing to the human resources of the nation. Fit and active workers are needed at all levels, whether it is a labourer, a company’s CEO or even a minister in the national government.
Research conducted by the WHO, in countries across the world have shown that ill-health leads to high mortality rates. A nation that has to struggle to continuously save the lives of its citizens will soon run out of funds and will not be able to progress. Additionally, a shortage of workforce will cause factories to shut down and bring the economy to a grinding halt. The country needs healthy people to shoulder its economy.
Furthermore, physical and mental health go hand in hand. Physical problems can easily cause one to have mental health issues. This in turn can cause a sharp rise in crime and over-burden the law and order system as well as the healthcare system of a nation.
Yet another concern regarding health is that an individual can achieve his or her best only when he or she can completely focus on a goal. Ill-health interferes with concentration levels and hence the individual cannot be as creative or innovative as he or she is capable of. And it is rather well-known that innovation and creative out-of-the-box thinking play a crucial role in national development.
Given all the above-mentioned factors connecting health to national self-reliance, I am certain that my physical fitness is an asset to my nation and I will do my utmost to put it to good use.

Atmanirbhar Bharat (English: Self-reliant India) is the vision of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation. The first mention of this came in the form of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharata Abhiyan' or 'Self-Reliant India Mission' during the announcement of the coronavirus pandemic related economic package of Rs.20 lakh crores on 12 May 2020.[1] This self-reliant policy does not aim to be protectionist in nature and as the Finance Minister clarified, "self-reliant India does not mean cutting off from rest of the world".[2] The law and IT minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that self-reliance does "not mean isolating away from the world. Foreign direct investment is welcome, technology is welcome [...] self-reliant India... translates to being a bigger and more important part of the global economy."[3
