1.)Interestingly, both Google and Xerox have the rare distinction of being among the handful of those tech companies that became so popular that their names are often used as verbs.

2.)A. By providing superior services than others

Today, Google search engine is the most refined and intelligent search engine out there. They did it with their endless effort to give customers best results for their search keywords which in-turn means they put endless hours in refining their search engine algorithms and beating the black hat SEO techniques.

B. By obtaining loyal users and not getting their ads clicked.

Google always put its users first than the advertisers. Google knew the simple fact that advertisers will come when the users will come. It has always been the case not the other way around which Yahoo/Bing and rest of the websites do. If you search something on Yahoo/Bing, you are bombarded with low quality high paying ads in the search results first and then the organic results at the very bottom of the page. Yahoo/Bing do this in the hope to get more paid clicks thus increasing their revenue but instead get 1 or 2 clicks per user and then the user is gone forever after seeing the low quality results.

Google on the other hand, in its earlier years, never showed paid ads over the organic results. The paid ads were always shown on the right side of the page (Adwords) and organic results were always been the main attraction of the SERPs. Even in later years, only those paid ads that have showed considerable CTR (click through rate) & user satisfaction were shown on the top of the organic results and not the high paying ads. Google made sure that even if they will show 1/2 paid ads over the organic results, the paid ads will be of highest quality thus giving the same high quality experience to the end user which any other high performing organic results would have done.
