Yes,they were only contemptuous of Shylock and not his race because Shylock is the one who lend money to other by charging high interest and used to hate Christian where as Jessica Shylock's daughter was welcomed by Gratiano and his friends because she is a faithful lady who fall in love with a Christian guy Lorenzo !

Shylock and his race are continually abused and derided because he hate the Christian.But we feel sorry for him because in this we came to know that Shylock hate Christian specially Antonio because earlier he used to laugh at his loses,make fun of his earning, humiliated his race, treat him like a dog,spat on him.
