Self-control is the capacity to override an impulse in order to respond appropriately. We use self-control when we eat carrots instead of  donuts, when we forgive instead of getting angry and when we pay attention instead of paying someone short shrift.

ex:

Many students plan how they spend their time. Few students plan how they spend their limited self-control energy. I encouraged myself & the students to spend the next week considering what they will do and how much self-control energy they will need to do it. Being mindful of when to spend and when to conserve their mental energy will help to navigate their environment and achieve their goals.
