Shared decision making is particularly beneficial when the decision involves either personal values or moral choices.
The health professional may not be considered an expert because the decisions are based not just on medical status.
However, to be remembered that the health professional would still have the opinion that the decision needs to be medically reasonable.
However, the issue is entangled with values and difficult personal individual choices.
This may mean that health professionals not able to provide perfect directive advice and the decision making is rested more towards the patient, as the best choice is related to their personal health.
