body is called a balanced diet. It is important to have a balanced diet to stay healthy and fit.
2. Many people are not able to get nutritious food for the following reasons:
a. Poverty
b. Lack of awareness about the nutritional content of food.
c. Religious beliefs
d. Over cooking
e. Gender discrimination
3. The diseases that are caused due to the lack of specific nutrients in our body are called deficiency
diseases.

c. Avoiding over cooking of food.

5. A situation when people do not get food for a long time and start dying of hunger is called

During a famine , people don’t get food and die of hunger.
6. Deficiency of iron causes anaemia.
An anaemic person should take food rich in iron like green leafy vegetables , spinach, apple,
guava, banana, pulses, jaggery,egg, meat and liver.
7. Vitamin D is produced in our body when the skin is exposed to sunlight.
8. Goitre is the deficiency disease caused due to the lack of iodine in the body which leads to
the swelling of neck .
9. Different ways in which food can be preserved are as follows:
a. Keeping in fridge- e.g. fruits and vegetables
b. Boiling- e.g. milk, dal
c. Keeping in air tight container – biscuits, pulses , grains
d. Fermentation- curd, idli
e. Drying- red chilli , dry fish
f. Making pickles and jams- fruits and vegetables
