Answer:

Let,

Anand's age be = x

Therefore, Sharma's age will be = x+3

Thier age six years ago :

Anand = x-6

Sharma = x+3-6 = x-3

Now, According to the question

(x-3) = 4(x-6)

x-4 = 4x - 24

3x = 20

x = 20/3

x = 8.8 i.e 8yrs and 8months

Thus, Anand's age is 8yrs 8months and that of Sharma is 11yrs 8months

Answer

  • The age of Sharma = 12 years
  • The age of Anand = 9 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

To Find :-

  • The ages of Sharma and Anand.

Solution

Given that,

  • Sharma is 3 years older than Anand.
  • Six years ago Sharma's age was four times Anand's age.

Assumption

Let us assume the age of Anand as (x) years and Sharma's age as (x + 3) years.

Six years ago :-

  • Sharma's age = (x + 3) - 6 = (x + 3)
  • Anand's age = x - 6

Also given, Six years ago, "sharma's age was four time anand's age"

Sharma's age = 4(x - 6)

Therefore,

(x + 3) = 4(x - 6)

x + 3 = 4x - 24

x - 4x = - 24 - 3

- 3x = - 27

3x = 27

x = 27/3

x = 9

The value of x is 9.

Now, The ages are :-

  • Age of Sharma = (x + 3) = (9 + 3) = 12 years.
  • Age of Anand = (x) = 9 years.
