take 35 m west as perpendicular

i.e

perp = 35m

Now, we have to find hypotenius

for which we use pythaghorus thoerm

i.e

hyp = \sqrt{base ^{2}  + perp^{2}}

so putting the values in above equation i.e

hyp =  \sqrt{12 ^{2} + 35^{2}  }

hyp =   \sqrt{144 + 1225}

hyp =  \sqrt{1369}

hyp = 37m
